Missing mom

For my Rita
One month ago, my mommy had gotten diagnosed with diffused large b cell lymphoma. Two weeks ago, she began her first chemo cycle. Thirty eight hours ago my beloved mommy passed away. She handled chemo like a trouper, didn’t complain or ask for anything. For several days after chemo ended, she felt fine. Then the fatigue set in and things unraveled from there. On Tuesday she ended up in the ER and eventually ICU as everything got worse. On Friday, early in the morning despite putting up an insanely hard fight given how sick she became, my mother went back to her first family: her mother, father and older sister.
You may ask me how I can write right now. With a great amount of difficulty but full clarity of mind. I am the younger of two, and the daughter and I don’t think I grasped even the millimeter of how much I love my mother until now, how close I was with her. This blog is important to me and I feel like I’ve bonded with you all to the point where I can share my real life with you. My mom is (and I think I am going to be saying is for a long time) a very private, old fashioned person, I don’t think she understood what a blog really was and I seem to recall her pretty much rolling her eyes at me when I told her about it. But she cared about what made me happy and having this outlet makes me happy. She had the same attitude towards Facebook.
She instilled the love of reading and books in me which led me to this blog in the first place. As many kids, I didn’t share myself fully with mom and though I know she was often hurt by it, she understood. She raised me to be loyal and independent, stubborn and private like she was. I wasn’t always the easiest daughter but I know she always knew how much I loved her and how much she meant to me. On her last day, I started reading to her from a book she shared with me as a child, a book we both read as kids. And I know she was happy to hear me read to her, maybe she thought it was cheesy but I know she heard me and it comforts me that we could share this even when she was asleep.

Restful Saturday
I hope everything is having a lovely and restful Shabbat. I am spending some time with my television while judging hard on TLC’s Four Weddings. Gotta know how not to do things. And doing some wedding research. The upside of planning for a spring wedding in the summer is the seemingly vast amount of time stretching ahead of me. It’s nice to have even a brief wisp of an idea of what we both want.
The rest of the day is pretty mellow. I would kill for a pedicure because my stress level is at an all times high. Ken tells me that I’ve been talking in my sleep lately, and today I woke up with a headache and hurting teeth. I am the unfortunate recipient of TMJ and I grind my teeth a lot. So I need to take it easy. We’re going to SF this afternoon to hang out with my parents (not both sets because I apparently confused myself on when we were getting together for Father’s Day) and then we are going to a 30th birthday party for my amiga Rachel! Magic Show! Moroccon Theater! Yeah!
I plan to do some reading this weekend, finish off Maus so I can tell ya’lls about what I thought about it. I guess it may have been a bit of a weird choice given my stress level right now but I’ve wanted to read it for years. And delve right into something new. I will say this though, I’ve been reading a lot this whole time since my last review but I guess words have not wanted to come.

Sisterhood of the world Award
Yay award time!I am finally doing the tag given to me by The lovely Ritu
There are four rules:
1) Say “Thank You” to the person who nominated you & link their blog to your post.
2) Answer the 10 questions given to you.
3) Pass the award on to 7 other bloggers (I’m passing it to 5) and let them know they have been nominated.
4) Include the Award Badge in your post.
My Nominations…
Ten questions and answers
1) What do you personally think is the best thing about blogging?
The best thing other than getting to express my thoughts so they don’t strangle my brain (just kidding) is the fact that I have a chance to get to know so many lovely and interesting people.
2) What one thing is guaranteed to make you cry?
A Holocaust story, long lost family members reuniting after many years apart, and the scene of Mr. Darcy walking out of the mist to meet Elizabeth at random in the Keira Knightley version of “Pride and Prejudice.” GETS ME EVERY TIME.
3) What would you say is your favourite restaurant?
I actually don’t have one but I do have a favorite bakery. It’s this Eastern European bakery in town called Crixa Cakes and it can do no wrong in my book. Ever.
4) If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
I like where I am, my home is comfortable, my environment is safe. I wouldn’t mind to make an appearance on a beach somewhere, maybe Hawaii for a few hours where I could chill out for a bit with my fiance.
5) If you could only save three things from your house if it was on fire, what would they be?
All my photos, whether in printed format all electronic, the jewelry I inherited from my passed ones, and my favorite books.
6) What is the one fashion trend that you won’t be trying this SS15?
Still not into the crop top or the romper, too old for that shit.
7) What is your pet hate?
Slobber and incessant shedding.
8) What is your favourite scent?
My fiance. Lilac. Roses.
9) What is the word/phrase that you use way too much?
I still say “Like” too much for someone my age.
10) Where do you see yourself in the future?
How far in the future are we talking here? Tomorrow? I am going to wake up, shower, get dressed, commute for an hour, work for a while, then commute back home where I get to go to the dentist and have a root canal. Yay me. In all seriousness, I’d like to see myself married to my fiance and a mom of at least one of his babies. I’d like for us to have a slightly bigger home. I see both of us working and I hope to see both sets of grandparents at our kids’ high school graduations.
My Questions
So yall can choose to answer questions from above or a few that I’ve dreamt up. Creativity and fun are the key here. I’ll even answer them myself if you want.
- Is there any kind of a doctor you don’t mind going to? I just got back from getting a root canal so I guess I am feeling morbid 🙂
- If you were to recommend a good book for one of your parents to read what would it be?
- What are your honest thoughts on A Song of Ice and Fire, aka Game of Thrones?
- What game is your guilty pleasure? For me it’s definitely Candy Crush Saga right now.
- Do you read gossip blogs?
- What’s the one place in the world you’d like to visit, truly if you had a chance? Even if you’ve been there already?
- Who is your inner nerd?
